Our Legacy

Antioch Church began on January 10, 1961 when Rev. and Mrs. Joe Chaney, Jr., along with five other people, met in the living room of their home. The dynamic leadership and church growth made Morgan Hall on Eighth and Locust in downtown Long Beach, Antioch’s next home. Not long after that, with less than 50 members and a treasury almost empty, an “impossible dream” came true. The church, by faith, purchased the property located at 16th and Gundry where it currently stands. On the third Sunday in August of 1961, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church held its first service in the new building with the spirited words of Dr. Timothy Chambers, Sr. as the guest preacher. Rev. Joe Chaney graciously served the church for over four decades. In 2003, with great pleasure Rev. Wayne Chaney, Jr., his grandson was installed as Senior Pastor and commissioned to lead the church forward.
